Why we chose Manchester as StuComm’s second home
We are thrilled to announce that we’ve opened our first UK office in Manchester. Our UK operations are now based in the Bright Building at Manchester Science Park, which is home to some of the most exciting start-ups in the UK.
The Bright Building is a “living lab for tech and innovation” in the heart of the Oxford Road Corridor, known as Manchester’s Innovation District. We were very impressed with the breadth of projects and companies hard at work in the Bright Building, ranging from start-ups to global tech corporations, and to witness a shared value of collaboration bring this community together.
Our UK Manager, Rachel, is based on the co-working floor of Mi-Idea along with CEO, Ronald, who makes a weekly visit to support our UK launch. The location is ideal for our UK team because the Bright Building sits next to the University of Manchester, meaning we can easily keep a finger on the pulse of our customers – students. The Bright Building is also home to many events, partners and even accelerator programmes, ensuring maximum support for companies who choose to call it home.
We chose Manchester over more obvious choices like London because we saw that the entrepreneurial community of Manchester shared our values – quality, collaboration and partnership. We’ve already had the pleasure of meeting many entrepreneurs in the local EdTech sector through events and we’re immensely grateful for the support and encouragement we’ve received at every turn.
Both local and international investments over the past few years have concretised Manchester’s reputation as a hub for innovation and development. We have been supported by MIDAS, in particular Ben Ward, who dedicated himself to us, helping us find a range of excellent opportunities and providing us with a local knowledge that saved us a lot of headaches.
Manchester is one of the most exciting places to be in the UK. It’s cheap and cheerful in comparison to its Southern counterpart, with just enough grit to keep its people hustling and helpful. An ethos of humour and hard-work ensures this vibrant city develops fast – and we think it’s only the beginning. We’re delighted to be a part of Manchester’s journey and could not think of a better place to call home in the UK.
